History: http://reborn.wikia.com/wiki/Tsunayoshi_SawadaPersonality: In the beginning, Tsuna doesn't seem to fit the role of a main protagonist. He's a loser with failing grades and is a constant victim of bullying. Tsuna also scares easily, lacks drive and is very lazy. At one point, the only reason he even bothers going to school is to get a glimpse of the girl he likes. He may not value himself to try harder in making friends and doing well in school, but he definitely sees that value in others. Tsuna is very aware of his flaws, and unlike people who work to change them, Tsuna just accepts that's who he is. He doesn't ambition to be anything more than "No Good Tsuna". He does come to admire people who are talented and popular, because they are unlike his pathetic self, and maybe he almost wishes to be like them. Being surrounded by friends, and having fun seems like a dream to the defeatist Tsuna.
Then enters Reborn, his hitman home tutor who comes to whip this misguided youth into shape. So that Tsuna can eventually be worthy of being the next boss of the Vongola family, the most powerful and influential organization within the mafia. The hitman becomes Tsuna's catalyst in changing himself and how he values others. Through challenging him each day, Tsuna is able to gain a group of friends and even transform himself for the better.
The value that Tsuna always harbors for others grows into being protective of the friends he has. Coming from a place where he was alone, and no one really noticed him, Tsuna understands the importance of friendship. These bonds with people gives Tsuna strength. Driving him to be stronger, in order to protect them, and even preserve these relationships. Despite Reborn grooming Tsuna to be a mafia boss, the only thing that fuels his resolve is being able to help his friends.
Tsuna's friends come from different walks of life and each have their own passion. He's supportive of their talents, whether it be cheering on Yamamoto's athleticism, or marveling Gokudera's intelligence. However in order to appreciate them at their best, he must accept them at their worst. Tsuna learns to be accepting of friends weird quirks and personalities. He relates to them because he's been in a dark place himself, and he values their life and will do anything to make them more secure. Tsuna shows this by talking Yamamoto off a ledge after his friend injures his arm, believing he'll never play baseball again. He cares for his friends, and doesn't abandon them, despite how crazy they may seem. It works both ways for Tsuna, too; The people who accepts Tsuna recognize his lack of confidence and enthusiasm, try to encourage him to try. They don't ask Tsuna for more than what he is willing to give.
As his Vongola awareness grows, Tsuna begins to see the good in people. During his battle with Lancia, Tsuna is able to see through the pained man, and understand that he isn’t a bad person. It’s because this intuition that Tsuna has,he's able to open up and trust more people. Even showing compassion not only for his comrades, but his old enemies as well. He’s not a person who can hate, or at least dislike people for very long. Especially when Tsuna shows concern for Mukuro after finding out he is still locked in the Vendice Prison, despite what the illusionist put his friends and himself through.
He also tends to avoid violence. He doesn't like to fight, or see other people be in conflict. Tsuna is usually a target for bullying, not just because he's meek, but his unwillingness to fight back. Tsuna would rather take the abuse, then cause conflict by fighting back. Reborn forces him to confront some of his bullies, but Tsuna remains resistant.Still taking on a more pacifistic stance when he's being bullied.Unlike the stereotypical Mafioso who's tough and gruff, caring little for their subordinates, Tsuna cares a lot for his family, often not wanting to involve them in anything that deals with the mafia at all. When it comes to Yamamoto fighting in a battle and messing up his arm for baseball, Tsuna feels especially guilty, or whether Gokudera decides to carelessly throw his life away for Tsuna, the brunette becomes furious with him, not wanting to lose a friend over something he feels is insignificant.
Tsuna is not a complete pushover. If he completely disagrees, he won't do it.When previous bosses of the Vongola tests Tsuna, saying he must continue to walk down the same bloodied path as his predecessors, Tsuna refuses and vows to destroy the Vongola instead. When something pushes him to his limit, or he sees that people are wrongfully hurt, Tsuna becomes a champion that fights injustice. Normally he cowers at thought of standing up to anyone, but there are times where he can fight for what’s right and resolves to defeat his enemy at all costs. There are lines that people can cross that Tsuna feels are unforgivable. During the final battle with Byakuran, Byakuran's tyrannical reign forces Yuni and Gamma to sacrifice themselves in order to revive the Arcobaleno. Tsuna retaliates on Byakuran by incinerating his entire body with his X-burner, since Byakuran's action couldn't be redeemed.
Although Tsuna has power, he doesn't use it for selfish reasons. His power is to protect what's important to him. Usually he musters the courage to fight because his friends and family are in danger. He never uses his power for his own gain, especially since he rejects being the heir to Vongola. If not, for his friends or family, he'll lend his strength to anyone who might need or perhaps some injustice that might be happening.
Tsuna has the tendency to be indecisive or doesn't feel confident about his decisions. But most of all, Tsuna hates making important choices that might influence his friends negatively. However the dark world of the Future Arc pushes Tsuna into making decisive moves, and not being afraid of making wrong verdicts. The urgency of their situation forces Tsuna into being a boss, despite his aversion to being a part of the mafia. Being able to make the right decisions shows how much he values the people in his life. To make sure he can protect everyone, he must take responsibility and ownership of his own mistakes in order to find a solution.
More than most, Tsuna has been very reliant on Reborn. The hitman and his pupil share a special bond, which may seem really comedic from an outsider’s standpoint, but Reborn really understands Tsuna. And it is Reborn that Tsuna looks to for counsel. When his friends can’t calm his nerves, and when the dark world of the Mafia seems too overwhelming, Reborn is usually there to set him straight. However, little by little, Tsuna’s reliance on his home tutor has been tested. There are instances where Tsuna has to make decisions on his own and find his own resolve. Going by his gut to make the right choices he needs to make. Such as when he chooses to deal with Enma and the Shimon family, despite the Ninth urging him to let someone else handle it. He feels some responsibility for his friend's actions towards Vongola, and wishes to solve it on his own to minimize causalities.
Tsuna doesn't have the air of a leader, he isn't confident; he spends more time trying to avoid ordeals than facing them. Still, he's a friend first and has everyone's best interest in mind. That's what makes him respected by his friends as well as those who've come to accept him in his journey. Tsuna has much potential for growth, but he is content with enjoying the crazy days while he can.
Abilities: Dying will flame of the Sky – like most main characters in Reborn canon, each person has a distinct dying will flames that are characterized by the changes of the Sky, such as Storm, Rain, Thunder, Sun, Mist, Cloud and Sky itself. Tsuna possesses the sky flame. In Tsuna's case, his dying will flame visibly shown, whether on his forehead or engulfing his gloves. Tsuna’s flames can be used offensively or defensively. In the form of the X gloves, these gloves can compress his dying will flames making him able to fly and fire long range and devastating attacks. He can also use his gloves to absorb energy and also deflect it with his ice. The sky flames can also be used to activated any box weapon because of the harmonizing effect, still a box opened by a sky flame will never match the full power of box of a certain attribute.
Hyper dying will mode- Unlike his Dying will mode that removed external limiters, such as pain nerves, the hyper dying will mode lifts any internal limiters giving Tsuna a new state of awareness. He's more cool and collected, confident as well. Stronger in the sense that he doesn’t rely on his physical strength, but he’s able to use his head and strategize in the moment. His endurance is much longer in this form and he’s able to fight without exerting himself too much unlike his more brash form.
Hyper Intuition- Awakened during one his first trials; it is a blood trait that passes through the Vongola family. An ability that is said to allow the user “to see through all” this is shown when Tsuna was able to see through Lancia, and know he wasn’t a bad person. Or even use this ability to find a way to develop his version of the Zero Point Breakthrough.
Zero Point Breakthrough (First Edition)- A technique developed by Vongola Primo, where Tsuna uses the negative flames of his dying will to freeze instead of burn. He can trap dying will energy, and also use it to freeze people, liquids and solids.
Zero Point Breakthrough (Revised)- A technique Tsuna develops when trying to learn the Zero Point Breakthrough. By slipping between a Plus (Hyper Dying Will mode) and a Negative (Resting or ordinary)state, he finds he can absorb energy and use it to increase his own energy and power.
X Burner- Tsuna's most powerful attack, using his Sky flames to create a powerful energy blast that can cause wide range destruction. He blasts with one of his hands, which emits Hard Flame, and his other hand is facing the other way, giving him support. He can shoot this on the ground or even mid-air. ((Different variants, according to canon point, the XX burner, which uses both of his hands crossed over each other. Oath Flame X Burner where he doesn't need have to balance flame output and fires at will.))
Strengths: Compassionate, forgiving, kind, sympathetic, protective
Weaknesses: Impatient, lazy, lacks confidence, indecisive, easily intimidated
God/Shinki: God
Why?: Tsuna is the 10th boss of Vongola, although he is unwilling to accept his role, it's this position that given him strength to befriend others and fight for what he believes in.He may not always be confident, but Tsuna knows how to put his own desires to the side for others, or even for what is right and just. He has experience in having guardians to follow and protect him. He'll apply that sense of responsibility and determination into his godship, while handling his shinki and the prayers he must fulfill.
Top 3 Choices: Vulcan- Roman God of fire, metalwork and the forge
Horus- Egyptian God of the Sky and Kingship
Agni- Hindu God of Fire, messenger to the gods and purification
God Type: Tsuna will be unwilling to accept his role as god as he does with his position as the next mafia boss of Vongola. Though as he does with his current role, he'll use his power to help his friends and the people who need his help. He embodies some of the traits of the gods, so he will probably continue to preserve that image. For prayers, he'll do his best to fulfill them as long as he's not using his power to hurt people.
Power: Energy Absorption - Able to revert the energy from attacks into usable energy for himself. Like with his Zero Point Breakthrough: Revised, Tsuna has to do a certain hand movement in order to activate the absorption. He also has to be in a close distance, or physically touching the entity in order to draw energy from them.
Writing SampleSample: Tsuna didn’t want to lead the life of a Mafioso, especially not lead the most influential family of the Mafia, the Vongola. But no matter how hard he protested, or even if he ran away from it all, it always had a way of drawing him bacl in. The brunette mulled over this, looking at the ring in his palm. The weight of the treasure was light, but the implications of the small trinket were bigger than even himself.
With a history that dates back ten generations, sometimes it was hard for Tsuna to believe it could be condensed into something as small as a ring. A prized possession soiled by blood and violence, a position he will have to take on if he indeed took his role as the next Boss. Such a thought always made the young brunette tremble. He didn’t want to be like that, he didn’t want to add to the crimes that were already committed.
He just wanted to live a normal life. Be ordinary. Though if it wasn’t for his ties with the Mafia, Tsuna wouldn’t have met the people who were currently in his life now. Tsuna inspected his ring further; this thing didn’t only bring him enemies and misfortune. It brought him friends, a sense of worth and responsibility. If he hadn’t been selected to be the heir, the humdrum life he was destined for wouldn’t have been as rich as the one he presently held. There were hardships but…they were worth it. He was grateful, and he definitely didn’t want to lose it.
Once Tsuna had resolved himself, the internal dialogue making the hesitant Boss even more assured of his choices, a kick came to the back of his head.“Stop slacking.”
The brunette went down, face hitting the ground with a loud groan and a whine. He could feel the small feet of his home tutor’s on his back, standing upon him like a prized kill. Tsuna sat up on his elbows with a start, his redden face, especially at his nose. Looking over his shoulder at the Hitman, He shouted. “I know, I know! You didn’t have to kick me!”
The Spartan treatment of Reborn never ceased to amaze him. And though he should expect the Hitman's actions by now, the Arcobaleno always seemed to overwhelm him when his guard was down. Tsuna’s body ached, but he didn’t dwell on the pain too much. He knew what he needed to do now. Plus if he didn’t, he was sure Reborn would torture him until he did.
“Hurry up.” There was another swift kick to his head, because Tsuna obviously wasn’t moving fast enough. The boy grimaced, this time he felt the tiny heel dig into his scalp.
“A-all right!” The Mafioso exclaimed, getting up on to his feet. Tsuna was surprised, he even had brain cells left to function with Reborn’s abuse!
OtherAnything Else?: Nope!
